Gadget Combination between Sony PSP and Apple iPhone

There is always a conversation over the web about the gadgets from various brands to be combined with other gadgets popular among gadget makers in order to create a multifunction device, but ultimately concluded that it is not time to happen!

Usually the gadgets we have today is a gadget that can look very impressive, interesting, a lot of benefits and eye-catching gadget so if anybody saw, seemed to want to borrow it.

What if there are 2 gadgets combined into one, namely the Sony PSP and Apple iPhone?

PS3 gadget can bypass HDCP copy protection

Our sister site, PSPSPS, has discovered a gadget that can bypass HDCP on the PS3.

The Gameswitch PS3-S201 allows the Playstation 3 to be connected via DVI to a non-HDCP certified monitor, and display content at 1080p resolution. As DVI doesn't handle sound, that will have to be routed separately to the TV or speaker system, though the unit does appear to have jacks for this.

It's unlikely to be a pirate's dream, as the method would only allow you to record a disc in real-time and without any audio. More useful for anyone with a slightly older DVI-based monitor that doesn't have the necessary content protection system in place, though at $199 it's not a pocket money gadget.

Folding Laptop Concept Offers Full-Sized Keyboard

A niche concept for those who really miss their full-sized keyboards when using a netbook, designer Yang Yongchang has cooked up this folding laptop idea with top-notch spec.

I would've liked to have seen the right-hand side fold out to a large touchpad or even soft mousepad for a little Bluetooth mouse, but could be kept happy with this sturdy-yet-dinky design. Perhaps the designer could even offer bespoke keyboard arrangements, with extra space dedicated to a numeric keypad, or accented letters? [Yanko Design]

Cool New Gadgets

Monday is the laziest day of the week. Thats why, after thinking in finding a way to remove the boredom, we decided to search for some cool new gadgets and make a strong collection so you to have something nice to read in 10 minutes of your Monday morning, before reaching your work place. So here they are!

A Posable Funboy Web Camera would be a fun companion for your video conversations over the Internet. It would maintain a nice smile on your face and allow you to change its position anyway you like.
The built-in web camera has a 350 kilopixel CMOS sensor with 1.3MP software interpolated and microphone, while the image resolution reaches 640 x 480 pixels at up to 30 frames per second and 24-bit true color.
It features USB 2.0 connectivity via a 90-cm long cable, Windows Vista and Mac support, while measuring 115 x 80 x 50 mm.
We havent tested it to see the image quality but we assume its an entry level model, as it costs just 10.27 EUR.

Instead of the boy you might like a Posable Robot Web Camera. Both models are designed in such a way to look funny but in the same time to provide flexibility, allowing you to set it according to your position in front of the PC. The robot camera features 360-degree adjustment and has the same characteristics as the previous model described, with support for Skype and MSN live conversations.

MIT develop Wear Ur World, 6th sense hand gesture gadget

MIT researcher Pattie Maes demonstrated a new gadget earlier this week at a technology conference in South California. It is called Wear Ur World (WUW), or 6th Sense and allows you to access information as though you always have a PC in front of you, but controlled by hand gestures.

What the researchers have done is combine a number of standard gadgets including a webcam, projector, and mobile phone, to form a brand new interaction experience. In its current form the battery-powered projector is attached to a hat, the webcam is hung around the neck (or also positioned on a hat), and the mobile phone provides the connection to the Internet.

The wearer uses hand gestures combined with the gadgets to perform actions. So, for example, they could make a circle over their wrist with the fingers of one hand. WUW would recognize this action and project a clock face on to their wrist. Make a picture frame with both your hands and WUW will take a picture as if it was a camera. Stand near a wall and you can get a projected desktop allowing you to open applications, view the pictures youve taken, or surf the Net.

At the moment it is just a prototype system, but because it uses off-the-shelf components the cost of creating one is just $300 for the hardware involved.

Patty Maes commented:

Other than letting some of you live out your fantasy of looking as cool as Tom Cruise in Minority Report it can really let you connect as a sixth sense device with whatever is in front of you You can use any surface, including your hand if nothing else is available, and interact with the data It is very much a work in progress. Maybe in ten years we will be here with the ultimate sixth-sense brain implant.

Read more at the AFP article

Matthews Opinion
I dont know about this being offered as a brain implant, but it could certainly be condensed down into a pair of glasses. The projector would be in the center of the frame, the webcam just below it, and the mobile phone could be integrated into one of the arms that goes over you ear, or form a plug-in device.

The key to this working with hand gestures is ensuring the webcam and projector move with your eyes. Putting them on glasses seems the easiest solution to that problem. Use WUW for a long time though, and your arms may get tired.

Decoupling you from carrying multiple gadgets and making the interface just your hands will offer a new level of freedom when it comes to accessing information. You will no longer have to find a PC to surf the Net. If you want to take a picture there is no more pulling a camera out of your pocket, turning it on, and waiting for it to be ready you just picture frame what you want with your hands and its done.

I hope it doesnt take a decade for such a device to appear as the researcher suggests, we may get them in a more crude form well-before then.

Celsius X VI II LEDIX, the $300k tourbillon dumbphone, gets handled

Yes, folks, what you are looking at is perhaps the world's most overly complex cellphone, and it has been given an overly complex name to match: the Celsius X VI II LEDIX. All those roman numerals don't convey the sense of power you'll feel in holding this to the side of your face while yelling at your assistant in a futile attempt at gaining the respect of your peers. Despite the phone quite naturally having a battery inside, the (soon to be broken) watch mechanism is purely mechanical, given another three hours of life each time you open and close this clamshell. Inside you can gaze at a design straight out of 1998 and functionality not much more advanced -- a simple browser, text messaging, and tri-band GSM. 3G isn't even on offer here folks, but when you're this rich you can pay other people to download high-res lolcat pictures for you.

The Sony PRS-700

Measuring about the same size as a slim paperback and weighing only 10 ounces, you can easily transport this unit anywhere you go. The built-in memory can store approximately 350 books, and the expandable memory card slots will accept Memory Stick Duo cards, giving you even more storage space. The eBook Library 2.5 PC software allows you to transfer PDF and even music files into your Reader, and future development plans for the Reader include the addition of a wireless feature to get your news anywhere you go. The screen is solely black and which, for now, and though a color reader is in the cards, Sony has said it is still years away from entering production.

Acer G24 LCD

The Acer G24 24-inch monitor can be found on the street for around AU$650, has a bright, glossy, reflective screen, and a smooth, bright orange bezel. The bottom of the bezel is 63.5mm above the desktop and measures 27.9mm on the left and right sides, bringing the full panel width to 571.5mm; that's slightly wider than the Dell UltraSharp 2408WFP's 558.8mm. The base panel depth measures 45.7mm about the same as the Dell's but it extends back another 33mm to house the ventilation system, bringing its full panel depth to 78.7mm, a hair longer than the Dell's 76.2mm panel plus vent.

The display has a 25-degree backward tilt as its sole ergonomic perk. Screen height adjustment, panel swivelling and pivoting aren't included. Connection options include DVI, HDMI and VGA, all supporting a 16:10 aspect ratio and 1920x1200-pixel native resolution and located on the back right-hand side of the panel, next to the neck. All are easy to access; however, the HDMI slot is too close to the neck for comfort and our fingers rubbed against it often.

The foot stand has a sleek space-age look with two 180mm long "toes" that extend out from the neck each at a 45-degree angle. The full width of the span is 360mm. Knocking the display from the sides yielded minimal wobbling as its wide stand and 7.26kg weight keep it fairly grounded. The foot stand is removable and the back of the panel includes four screw holes for VESA wall mounting.

The blue LED in the bottom right-hand corner represents the power button located directly underneath it. The five buttons to the left comprise the on-screen display array. The buttons include left and right arrows, a menu button, auto and an "e" button. Pressing the "e" button displays the available presets including User (custom), Text, Standard, Graphics and Movie. Selecting different presets altered the brightness and sometimes colour temperature of the display. For example, the Text preset lowers the brightness and adds a cool colour temperature, making reading text on a white background more comfortable. The rest of the OSD includes controls for colour temperature user control included brightness and contrast control.

Performance

We tested the Acer G24 with its DVI connection right next to our gaming powerhouse the Dell UltraSharp 2408WFP. The Acer posted a composite score of 89 on CNET Labs' DisplayMate-based performance tests, compared with the Dell UltraSharp 2408WFP's 90. Both displays got high marks in our greyscale tests, but the Acer faltered a little in some of our colour tests. This was mostly because of the high-gloss TN+Film panel, which makes viewing colour accurately on the monitor difficult if your line of site is not at the optimal level. Also, in the black screen test, we saw obvious backlight bleed through on the top and bottom edges.

The Acer's DVD movie performance triumphed over the Dell's in at least one area. While the Dell has a lower black level (thanks to minimal backlight bleeding), the Acer achieved an outstanding performance in our ghosting test. To test for ghosting, we used a scene from the Kill Bill: Vol. 1 DVD that shows a close-up of The Bride's big toe (sound's weird, but it works every time). While the Dell had apparent ghosting, the Acer's was minimal in comparison.

Games are really where the Acer G24 excels, as Unreal Tournament 3 (UT3) looked great with the display's super-high-gloss screen and high brightness. This high gloss gives added pop to the colours and resulted in a vibrant image, especially compared with the Dell's comparatively dull look. Also, we found that our fragging accuracy was better with the Acer than the Dell. This may have to do with pixel lag being slightly worse on the Dell, but as of yet we don't have a tool to confirm this. Still, playing UT3 on the G24 felt faster and more responsive.

The optimal viewing angle for a monitor is usually directly in front, about a quarter of the screen's distance down from the top. At this angle, you're viewing the colours and gamma correction as they were intended. Most monitors are not made to be viewed at any other angle. Depending on its panel type, picture quality at non-optimal angles varies. Most monitors use TN panels, which get overly bright or overly dark in parts of the screen when viewed from non-optimal angles.

The Acer G24 uses a TN+Film panel, which adds extra gloss to the screen. While this gloss really makes the colours in games pop, we don't recommend this monitor for non-entertainment purposes. When it is viewed from the sides or below, the screen appeared to darken only a couple of millimetres off from optimal. Of course, when viewed from the optimal angle, we had no problems. When watching a movie we had to make sure we were absolutely lined up or we'd notice the heavy backlight bleeding on the black bars or reflections in the super glossy panel. The lack of a screen height adjustment feature hurts all the more when the viewing angle is so sensitive.

If you're looking for a gaming-friendly monitor, you've come to the right place. Thanks to its high-gloss, TN+Film panel, the colours on the G24 look vibrant and smooth and high-speed games feel responsive and accurate. Competitors such as the AU$989 Dell UltraSharp 2408WFP make for a better all-round monitor considering the lower black level, S-PVA panel, and multitude of connections, but when it comes to displaying games, the G24 is a clear winner. Unfortunately, the G24 isn't suited for much else beyond games. Its unforgiving viewing angle requires the display to be placed at a specific position to get the most out of it. Also, the severe backlight bleeding means that while movies look vibrant and lack ghosting, their colour isn't accurate enough for serious viewing.

The camera will automatically power down and close its top to create a flat surface and protect the lens from any damage when youre not using it. Watch out Wii, Sony outlines "astounding" PS3 rescue plan

Sony has outlined a plan to rescue the PlayStation 3 (PS3) from oblivion. Disappointingly, the plan has already received a thumbs down from a leading Japanese games expert.

Contrary to wide speculation, the plan does not include a price cut. Instead, Sony wants to work on relationships with third-party game publishers to improve the range of games available for the PS3.

The most important thing for me at this point in time is to ensure that we have the breadth of software, the chief executive of Sonys video game unit, Kazuo Hirai, told the Wall Street Journal at the Tokyo Game Show industry conference.

Price alone does not drive any product.

Hirai said that he would improve communications with publishers, so that they will have a better idea of what Sony was planning. Publishers would also have input into Sonys marketing strategy.

In an astounding move, Hirai also said that Sony will start marketing the PS3 as a games console, rather than as a super computer/home entertainment device. Apparently hes realized that gamers above everything want a games console first and foremost.

This is obviously something that Sony has painfully learnt from Nintendo, which from day one has marketed its popular Wii games console, as a games console.

The president of market-research firm Enterbrain, Hirokazu Hamamura, expressed doubts about the rescue plan, explaining that he was disappointed that there was no price cut. As he pointed out, many game developers want to see more PS3 sales before they start working on new games.

The new PS3 80GB offers an unforgettable gaming experience

When Sony introduced the PlayStation 3 in November 2006, it was quite expensive and truly speaking, it couldnt be counted a great package. Thats why the sale was phenomenally poor during early days.

But now after 18 months of the initial UK launch, the console has proved a totally different product with regular firmware updates, price cuts and several new models.

And today, the 60GB model is breathing his last and new born 80GB is restless to take his place.

So far price is concerned, its 125 lesser than the original launch price. Now you will get a better games console in 299.
Though some hardware have been trimmed off, the 80GB PS3 is still a nice gaming console. There were more USB ports and front-mounted card reader in the previous models and it also had a chip for compatibility with PS2 games. These features are no more, but its a fantastic gaming console despite missing these features.

It would be a sane thing to describe the PlayStation 3 just a games console as it has a integrated media centre with super-slick gaming powerhouse.

With its magical IBM Cell processor, it is, indeed, more powerful than the Xbox 360. It has full-HD 1080p graphics that feels quite nice. It 80GB hard drive is not less than a boon as the games installed to hard drive load quickly. There is the enormity of GTA IV on the device, beyond the initial start-up no loading screens are there. The best thing about the PS3 is that it supports open standard and compatible with similar sort of hardware as in your PC.

It comes with integrated Bluetooth for the SIXAXIS and DualShock 3 controllers and furthermore, you can use that Bluetooth with any Bluetooth device you think about.

You can chat with your friends when playing multiplayer games as it can sync with your Bluetooth headset.
There isnt Bluetooth in the Xbox 360 and it also doesnt have built-in Wireless B/G networking while PS3 has both. Perhaps, thats the reason its slightly more expensive than the Xbox 360 Elite.

Built-in Blu-ray drive is considered the main trump card of the PS3 and the addition of this feature should be underestimated as it enables you getting two 300 devices at the price of one. There are regular PS3 firmware updates that help to keep Blu-ray player up to date with the newest features.

DVD playback in the PS3 is also somewhat exceptional and DVD movies look fantastic because of its Cell processor that upscale DVDs to 1080p HD.

The PS3 is compatible with well-known media formats, audio, video and pictures. There is a recent addition in the firmware known as DivX playback that allows you to play downloaded videos on the PS3. You can also copy them to a USB storage device.

In short, the new PS3 80GB offers an unforgettable gaming experience with its high quality features and reasonable price. If you really want to have a realistic gaming experience, none can provide you except the PS3, keep my word!
